When a small group of farmers of Karen descent set up the community of Baan Huay Hin Dum in central Thailand 50 years ago, they settled into an area of dense trees and plentiful wildlife. Sadly, their idyllic existence did not last long. The forest began to disappear, exploited by both outside loggers and local villagers. But the small group decided to fight back. This is the story of how they worked together -- with the help of organizations like RECOFTC -- to preserve both their livelihoods and the vital forests. It is an account of community forestry at work -- and a struggle that continues
