Dear Chau,

Thanks for your message - we have put some of our publications up on the blog site, in english, which may be of interest to you, although the experiences are gathered from work we undertook in Bolivia & Mexico. Please do come back to me if you have any specific questions - there are specific chapters on value adding, resource managment, as well as poverty and gender issues. Any problems downloading the pdf, please let me know

Hello Chau, I was the Head of Extension at GNADO and was also the Field Facilitator for the TREEAID/World Bank Village Tree Enterprise Project geared towards building sustainable NTFP Enterprises.

I am now Gender Officer of another NGO, but i still do some work around NRM. What about you.

Dear Chau,
Thanks for your message - and good luck with your doctorate. IF you want to find stuff that is particularly about NTFP value addition go to the bottom of the 'Useful documents' column on the left side of the home page of this site. Then click at the bottom on the button that says 'more'. This will take you to a small document library. If you look to the right and then click on the tab that says 'NTFPs' this will bring up useful documents.

Why not start a discussion that says 'Can NTFP enterprises both help livelihoods and conserve biodiversity?' and then members of the site will share their experiences with you.

From my own perspective, it is quite clear that SMFES in Guyana, Ethiopia, Malawi and Mzoambique where I work all make good money from NTFPS - but whther they also conserve the forest depends on whether they are the legal owners of the resource or not. If not - then they usually harvest illegally without much thought for conserving biodiversity. But if they own the forest - in general they take care of it.

Best wishes

Duncan

Dear Chau,
Welcome to Forest Connect's networking site for supporters of small forest enterprises! Please do take advantage of the useful documents library, join in discussions, add documents using the blog function, upload photos and invite others who you know who might find the site useful. Good to have you here.
Best wishes,
Duncan
