Forest Connect

Reducing poverty by connecting small forest enterprises

Are there folks on this site that work with REDD?

I am currently working with a Yale group on leadership training in Panama which is gearing up to implement REDD payments through the World Bank.

anyone have experience with REDD-Panama or REDD in general?

Hi JAson,
We have uploaded a few articles on REDD and community forestry onto the useful documents section which you can search by clicking on view all at the bottom. IIED is working hard on REDD with activities in Guyaana, Peru, Tanzania, Ugana, Ghana, Mozambique etc. We are working on the economics of REDD, the multi-stakeholder consultations that should underpin national REDD strategy development and broad governance issues. Check out IIED's REDD page.
Best wishes

Hey thanks Duncan, the iied site has some great resources.

I am curious if anyone is working directly with Panama though. They are one of the few countries the World Bank is moving forward with. i will upload some docs that i have found if people would benefit from them.

Jason.

We are starting to work on REDD in Nepal which is one of the countries which the World Bank is providing funding to to prepare for the REDD market. I would be interested in the docs you mentioned and would be glad to share information as we develop it. I also have worked for many years in Central America on forestry and community forestry issues.

Thanks,

Jason,

Thanks for uploading those files. They will be helpful. Below is a citation for a book chapter relevant to REDD in Panama. I thought it might be of interest but you may already have it. I tried unsuccessfully to upload it.

Chapter 23
PROJECTED LAND-USE CHANGE FOR THE EASTERN PANAMA CANAL WATERSHED AND ITS POTENTIAL IMPACT

Hi Jason,

We are working in Panama with smallholders--an indigenous community and a couple of individual landowners. We recently won a UN Small Grants Program award to do a carbon analysis of our indigenous partner's 2,000 ha rainforest reserve. I thought Panama wasn't receptive to REDD projects; confusion about who the carbon really belongs to (community/landowner or the government). Where and when is the training?

Hey sorry for the late reply....

We are working in the Cocle region in Rio Hato at the moment. We have other trianings going on as well.

I think indigenous people have not decided yet, but the World Bank is moing forward, there is already a R-plan for Panama, which i attached above....

i work with www.elti.org and we recently did a REDD training with a group of Kuna i believe.
